Mama Melrose Ristorante Dinner Review

Happy #tastytuesday friends!! As the Walt Disney World parks will be reopening soon, I thought I would throw it back for today’s review. My family and I decided to try Mama Melrose Ristorante in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in November 2019. You can find Mama Melrose in the Muppet Courtyard section of Hollywood Studios, and it is considered 1 table service credit for lunch and dinner on the Disney Dining Plan. Keep in mind that your experience may be different when the parks reopen, as we visited pre-Covid.

I’m not entirely sure why, but I missed getting pictures of both the outside and inside of this restaurant, so menu and food pictures will have to do for now until I can revisit! We had made a reservation around 5:30pm that day, but the restaurant was running behind schedule, so we waited about 25-30 minutes before we were seated. I’m not sure if this is typical for this restaurant, but I want to revisit it in order to get a better idea. Once we were seated, our server came around pretty quickly and so we ordered drinks and looked over the menu. As you can see, there are not many appetizer items that are dairy/gluten/egg free, and so I asked if I could get a salad with Italian dressing instead, which the chef said was doable.

Before our appetizers came out, we were given bread options. I was given an allergy friendly bread (although it did contain yeast), while my family was given standard Italian bread. I really liked this bread service because the bread was warm (as you can see by the wrapping in the picture), packaged separately to eliminate cross contamination, and I was given my own bowl of olive oil to dip it in. The olive oil I had still contained Italian herbs, but did not have parmesan. I loved the presentation, and the warm bread mixed with the herbed olive oil was delicious, with both sweet and savory tones! The rolls and bread service were a 7.5 for me.

My salad was the next to come out. Overall, the taste of the Italian dressing was awesome. It was creamy, although it did not contain dairy, and had a nice zing to it. My only two reservations about this dish were that it was 1) too big and 2) there was a little too much dressing. I ate as much of the salad as I could, but I stopped about half way through to save room for my entree. The salad was a 7/10 for me.

For my entree, I decided to try that Spaghetti Bolognese. Overall, the bolognese was delightful, full of meat and a really beautiful sauce on top. The pasta was great as well, and twirled well for an allergy friendly pasta. Again, my one reservation was that the dish was too big. I ate about 1/3 of the dish, and it was like you could not even tell I had made a dent in it. Since we were so full from our meal, and also running a little late to our next reservation, we opted not to try the dessert. This dish was a 6/10 for me.

Overall, I did enjoy my experience at Mama Melrose. I don’t think it’s somewhere I will frequent regularly, but it was a good experience with decent food. One of the reasons we actually chose this restaurant in particular was because we booked it as part of a dining package with Fantasmic! If you don’t know about this kind of dining package, it exists in Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom Parks and for 1 payment, you can have lunch or dinner at certain restaurants and also receive a guaranteed pass to see the nighttime show in that park. In the case of Hollywood Studios, you can see Fantasmic! I’m unsure if this kind of dining package will return anytime soon, but it’s a great added benefit if you can book it!
