Happy #tastytuesday friends!! Today we are making our way back over to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort to the Leaky Cauldron. You can find the Leaky Cauldron in Universal Studios, specifically within Diagon Alley. I went on a solo day trip to Universal a couple of weeks ago and decided to stop and check out the allergy friendly options since the restaurant wasn’t too busy.

When I have visited the Leaky Cauldron in the past, there was a line out the door because of its popularity. It was odd to see this area very quiet, which is why I decided to check it out. You can see from here that there are social distancing markers in the queue, just in case the line does get long.

Mobile ordering via the Universal Orlando mobile app is highly encouraged before entering the restaurant or while you are in line so that your food is ready quickly after you are seated. However, since I wanted to inquire about allergy friendly options, I opted to wait until I was able to speak to a team member concerning my food allergies. You can still see a version of the menu while you are standing in line as well.

As I have mentioned, the line to get into the restaurant is much shorter than I have seen in the past. I have seen this area entirely filled with people (of course, I also visited Universal prior to the pandemic). There were only about 4-5 parties ahead of me waiting to be seated.

Once I was the next up in line, I spoke to a team member concerning my food allergies (she isn’t pictured, but she was standing immediately to my right and asking everyone in the line to sanitize their hands before entering the restaurant). She let the team members who were seating parties know that I needed to speak to the chef before ordering. Because I remember the ordering stations being so crowded the last time I was here, I had to snap this picture to show how weirdly empty the ordering stations looked.

I was then seated and asked to wait for the chef to come out before I ordered my food. The tables in here looked pretty much the same as I remembered, although much more spaced out to fit the 6 feet distancing requirement.
The chef came out to my table ablout 5 minutes later. I told him that I have milk and egg allergies, and he ran through a list of options for me. I decided to order a chicken breast, and he suggested a side of broccoli, blistered tomatoes, and some root vegetables, which I was happy with. I could have order potatoes as well, as he offered them as an option. Once I had spoken with the chef, a team member took me up to the ordering area and helped me purchase my food. Because I also had a drink included with my meal, I decided to try a Peachtree Fizzing Tea, which the team member confirmed was dairy and egg free.

This drink was everything I wanted and more! It was cold, refreshing, and had the perfect amount of sweet and fizz. I think I liked it better than Pumpkin Juice, which surprised me. 10/10 for the Peachtree Fizzing Tea!

My entree was also excellent. The chef brought everything out for me! The chicken breast was cooked well and extremely tender. The chef let me know that the only seasoning on the chicken breast was applesauce and spices. I also loved eating the chicken breast with the broccoli and tomatoes, which when combined made a perfect bite. There was a good amount of flavor in the veggies and some nice garlic notes. 9/10 for this dish!
The root vegetables were good, but what I am learning as I age is that I don’t really like carrots, or, as I found out this day, parsnips. Overall, the vegetables were cooked very well, and I was pleased with the balanced plate I was able to have, but I just don’t like these vegetables and I’m still not sure why I ordered them. Therefore, I don’t think it’s for me to give them a proper rating because it will be biased. If you like root vegetables, I think you will like this option! I will stick to potatoes from now on.
Overall, I was extremely pleased with my experience at the Leaky Cauldron. The team members and chef were all attentive, helpful, and very cheerful, and the food surpassed my expectations. I will definitely be going back in the near future!
Here’s to living our best and most delicious Universal lives! <3
